About Wailea

Makena Beach (Big Beach)

Makena Beach (Big Beach) was voted one of the top ten beaches by the Travel Channel.  Known for it's crystal clear water and white sand shores, Big Beach is one of the best swimming beaches on the island and offers plenty of elbow room.  There is plenty of parking and the beach offers shaded areas in case you need a break from the sun.

Close to the Shops at Wailea, you will find Ulua Beach and Mokapu Beach.  Enjoy swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving and sunbathing at these beaches.  There is a bathhouse with toilets, sinks and an outdoor shower for your convenience.

Little Beach is the only "generally accepted" clothing optional beach on Maui.  Although public nudity is illegal in Hawaii, Little Beach is a small, 1/8th mile long stretch of beach where nude sunbathers go. From Big Beach entry 1, you walk to the beach, turn right and walk all the way to the north end of the beach. Getting there is a bit of a challenge, and requires a hike over the steep tip of Pu'u Ola'i, so do so at your own risk and don't forget your shoes!

Looking for seclusion?  Try the Black Sand Beach at Makena State Park. This somewhat unkempt, secluded beach is located down a winding, dirt driveway just before entry 1 of Big Beach.
